What Are Flower Essences?

A "flower essence" is a general term used to describe a vibrational medicine made from plants, trees, landscapes, or other intangible energies. An essence is made by placing a bowl of water in the sun for several hours. Often, the flowers of a plant or tree are placed in the water. The vibrational imprint of the plant or tree is transferred to the water using sunlight and intention. Then the solarized "mother essence" water is diluted homeopathically and preserved with brandy. This process is done in collaboration with the spirit of the plant or tree.

There are no scents or physical parts from the plant transferred to the preparation, unlike an essential oil which contains physical components of the plant or tree and has a strong scent.

Flower essences can be used safely for all ages, from babies to elders, and can also be used to support animals.

What Is the History of Flower Essences?

Flower essences have been used for centuries in many cultures for healing, ceremony, and spiritual development. An English bacteriologist and homeopathic physician named Dr. Edward Bach is credited with reintroducing the use of flower essences into our culture. In 1930, he gave up his practice to devote the rest of his life to a new system of medicine that he was sure could be found in nature. He began collecting dew drops from flowers, studying many flowers to find remedies for particular mental states or emotions. Over several years of trial and error, which involved preparing and testing thousands of plants, he found one by one the remedies he wanted. By the time of his death in 1936, he had founded an entirely new approach to healing that concentrated exclusively on the emotional and spiritual health of people rather than their physical symptoms.

How Flower Essences Work

Flower Essences are vibrational medicine. They help to shift a person's vibration, supporting the human energy system for mental, emotional, and spiritual development. They help support the healing of recent and past traumas, deep-seated beliefs, and patterns that have been imprinted upon the person in childhood or learned later in life. These patterns and beliefs may carry into adulthood. Flower essences can help bring awareness of these into the conscious mind, where they can be transformed and released. They make it easier to face the things within that may be holding a person in a pattern that is no longer serving them.

Often a person taking flower essences may experience only subtle effects that result in a shift in awareness. At other times, memories associated with past experiences may be released, but with a feeling that it is now safe to do so. The consciousness of the plants and trees meets the person spirit to spirit, supporting the person mentally and emotionally to feel safe and stable, so that they are able to handle shifts in ways of being that lead to living a more fulfilling life.

Flower essences are a great complimentary medicine alongside psychological therapy. Flower essences can also help to address the root cause behind illnesses and physical dis-ease, which are often linked to energetic patterns, beliefs, and traumas held in the energetic system.

In flower essence therapy, a person usually ingests the flower essence from a glass dropper bottle, under the tongue 3 times a day for a period of time set by the practitioner. Specific formulas are prepared by the practitioner for the client to assist in supporting their life experiences and conscious evolution. Flower essences can also be received by the person by placing essence drops in a glass of water to drink, through the skin by using sprays or taking baths in which the essence has been added or by placing drops of the essence directly on the skin.
